Finnicky? Not really, but then again shiba's blue blood makes her/him a bit 'singular'. Basically shiba wants to eat what humans want to eat : why settle for second best?

I may get into trouble with some for the following... but here goes any way. There are fundamental differences in the food chain between Europe and North America. Italy, for example, is Europe's largest produced of biological food. The US pushes genetically-modified organisms into the marketplace long before negative side effects are known. Think first. What would you rather not feed your kids? Personally, I don't see the need for GMO, I see many risks instead. So soja - 75 % of world production is modified - is non grata.

More logic. Sweets and too much salt are no-nos for most living beings. Industrial foods - for both human and animal consumption - include unnecessary levels of salt. Heart problems on the horizon... Industrial pet foods are full of filler. Do you eat filler? Although Shiba is no food hog, when choosing, check the composition on the side of the box: pick more protein, less filler.

As luck would have it, Fire - on the left here - loves pasta, bread, pizza, vegetables (yes Margaret: broccoli, cauliflower and green peas do not go to waste), meat & bones (obviously). Since I control most of the stuff, I know what is going in. I am not worried.

Come to think of it, the only thing Fire does not like is oranges. Oh well, I'll keep that for the energy level needed to keep up with her.
