shiba

Living-in

Shiba is easy. A thick coat of fur will push him/her to go out & play in the snow: no whimpering to be heard (owner may have trouble keeping up though). Summer is fine too, but shade is preferred. Shiba knows how to regulate its temperature.

sleep: sleeping positionShiba likes home. Shiba will take over home, if allowed to do so. So there are no-nos. Keep an eye out on wires, shoes, kids toys, the corner of the carpet (now that's tasty!). And be firm. Shiba is very intelligent and hates embarassment: will learn quick not to do certain things. Then will go out looking for some new mischief to accomplish ;-) !

Shiba likes outdoors. Independant-minded and self-assured means 'Dart for the exit!'

Oh yes, Shiba will run off: it's a big world out there to conquer. An enclosed area is best - sorry, an enclosed area is the only thing. Even then, figure out where shiba can snuggle into, fall off of or snag into. Cleverness must never be unassumed: even after training not to run off when the gate opens, Shiba can act like 'Hey, Do I care?'. And at the last possible moment, in a flash, be on the other side of the now-closed gate, running off to new adventures and laughing her/his head off at owner's ingenuity.

Oh, shiba will come back (barring any accidents). but how much acid can your stomach take?

Learning to give some space (i.e. letting off the leash in a big public area) is an experience. Got to go through it, but it is risky and nerve-racking.
